For Tweens and Teens

Moniteau County Library @ Wood Place has a variety of materials, resources and programs for our teen & tween patrons.

Programming for Teens and Tweens:

teen sloganThe Summer Reading Club for Tweens is for students entering 5th through 8th grade - with 5 evening programs. Tweens are asked to read a minimum of 1,500 pages over a 10 week time period.  Readers earn tickets for each 50 pages completed.  Participants receive a booklet to record their reading and store their tickets.  A 50 cent ticket is given for each library visit when books are checked out.  

 Tweens are encouraged to attend special programming on 5 Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.  Tweens receive a $1 ticket for attending.  The schedule and subjects for the programming are:
     May 28 - Geology Rocks!
     June 11 - Under Your Surface - What Your Handwriting Says about You
     June 25 - Make a Difference:  The Environment
     July 9 - Diggin' Up Bones!  Archaeology
     July 23 - Exploring Caves
pizza sliceThe deadline to claim tickets is July 31.  Tweens will have the opportunity to spend their tickets on prizes and pizza on Friday, August 2 @ 4:30 p.m. @ the library.

High Schoolers are also a part of the Summer Reading Program.  Teens entering grades 9-12 can register to read for cash. Books must be checked out from the library to qualify.  Books can be fiction or non-fiction.  We have the 2013-14 Gateway Award nominees. The deadline to claim cash prize is July 31.

The goal of the library in sponsoring this program is to promote literacy.

Collections:

Print Collection: The library has a wide variety of fiction books appropriate for middle and high school youth. These include classic authors, popular titles and a variety of genres. The non-fiction titles support homework assignments and general interests. We also have the 2013-2014 TRUMAN and GATEWAY Award Nominated books available in the Young Adult section of the library. Missouri School Librarians have nominated these books for students to read and vote for their favorite in March 2014.

Media Collection: Titles of interest to youth in CD, DVD and VHS formats are housed in the general media collection.

Burnt Mountain coverLibrary Book Club Meets June 19, 2013         

 The June selection for the Wood Place Book Club is "Burnt Mountain" by Anna Rivers Siddons .  The group meets to discuss the featured selection on Wednesday, June 19.  All readers are invited to join the group.
